Pharisee

I felt compelled to look up the definition this morning. Mixed in between all the other "stuff" was one thought - self-righteous.

Self Righteous! Which means - "piously self-assured and smugly moralistic"

And it fits what I was looking for.

I also found;

"the word 'pharisee' (and its derivatives: "pharisaical", etc.) has come into semi-common usage in English to describe a hypocritical and arrogant person who places the letter of the law above its spirit.

That fits too.

I have a "friend" who publicly "preaches" on Facebook. At the same time he "preaches" his God, he takes time to mock and belittle and blame his ex-wife for his troubles with his son. He maximizes all his troubles in the interest of "proving" he's the victim, not his son. 

And now, since he's recently been blessed with an opportunity in our fellowship with a commitment to chair one of our liason groups, he's making use of a "magic wand" mentality to take the responsibilities of that group to a level they weren't intended to go. As if he now has the ability, through this commitment, to save thousands.

He's lost sight, like many others, that God is the reason we're sober, not human power.

Offensive

Did you actually think that I'd allow a comment advertising a rehab?

Jaz - or whoever you really are - you are pathetic, sad, sick. You'll get the same results when you try it again.

Google may own this space but I'll treat it like it was mine. If you did it on those I own you'd be banned - for life.

Trap Doors

She is a young lady coming around for her first time and she doesn't want to drink away her family.

Well... I've had the "pleasure" of knowing more than a few folks who have done that - and more than once for some!

We have to hit bottom before we become as desperate as the dying can be in order to get sober. Yet one of the many things the oldtimers told me that was the truth is;

Every bottom has a trap door. We can always choose to dig deeper. Be happy with the bottom you have had. I haven't found it necessary to add any chapters to my story - absolutely by the grace of God! And you don't have to either...

Expectations

Seems to be a topic of interest recently 'round heeeyah :~)

And the saying I like a lot that relates to them is this;

"Expectations are resentments waiting to happen!"
